The contest
In March 2018, Club Nacional de Football, along with its kit's brand Umbro Uruguay, set up a contest for all the club members to design the new Away blue Kit for Nacional. It was the first time the supporters had the chance to design their beloved shirt and remain in the club's history forever.
The supporter's shirt
A Jury of Honor and authorities from Club Nacional de Football and Umbro Uruguay selected 5 designs from more than 600 received. Thereafter, these chosen designs were put to the vote among the club members, where Ignacio Barquet's proposal was the winner, with 42% of the total votes.

The first native team of South America
Nacional arises in 1899 with the purpose of founding a soccer club for Uruguayans, when, at that time, this sport was still a monopoly of European foreigners, mainly English. In this context is that the name is established: “Club Nacional de Football” (National Soccer Club), and along with the name comes the choice of the colors, taken from the flag of the Uruguayan leader José Gervasio Artigas: red, blue, and white.
For being the first soccer institution with a national provenance in the continent, Nacional is considered “El primer club criollo de América” (The first native team of South América).
The "Quinta de la Paraguaya"
As Nacional supporters, we also have a unique sense of identity with Artigas’ figure, given that the “Gran Parque Central”, the club’s stadium, located in the “La Blanqueada” neighborhood, stands on the same grounds as where the "Quinta de la paraguaya" used to be, the historic site where the former Uruguayan people proclaimed the General Artigas as "Jefe de Los Orientales” (“Chief of the Orientals”, Uruguayan people are called Orientals because the country is at the west of the Uruguay river).
Government authorities endorsed this condition by naming "Plazoleta Quinta de la Paraguaya" the main entrance of the stadium, among other tributes.
idea

The jacket
The idea was to use the Artigas’ uniform in the historic painting by Juan Manuel Blanes as inspiration and interpret it as a football shirt: red collar and cuffs, wooden buttons emulating the gold ones on the jacket, and a dark blue base, tones that Nacional had never used until then.
The flag
The design tops its tribute to the figure of the leader with a circular badge framing the flag designed by Artigas -one of the Uruguayan national flags- along with the text "Club Nacional de Football / Primer equipo criollo de América".
